I remember two years ago, I was going through a difficult time and experiencing depressive moods. I never really had a severe depression but I was feeling low and not finding a way out of that state. If you asked me what made me so unhappy, I couldn't answer. I wasn't having fun, I wasn't laughing as I used too.
Then, one day, and I can't remember exactly where I heard this, but the advice was "choose happiness" I always thought of happiness as something that happens to you because of this and that. Choose happiness? Hmm to consider happiness a choice was empowering. I chose to "smile" with intention. I chose to be happy about the sunny day. I chose to be happy I didn't have a flu as many around me did. I begun "choosing happiness" why would I choose the opposite after all.
I experienced a big change each time I consciously chose to be happy. It triggered something within me and turned my mood around. Just like that.
Happiness doesn't happen, you choose it, you make it, you invite it, you simply have it. So choose happiness today rather than dwell on any other emotion. You are in control. Time may fly but you're the Pilot! Make that time a happy one!
